How common for impetigo to come back?

I wondering if it possible for impetigo to come back in the same area again once it been gone for good while. This is about my four year old son.
When he was 11 and half months (2005). On my second left ear he end getting impetigo on the ear. The doctor had him on antibiotics and they had to keep switching kinds because it wouldn’t go away. Then it got bad enough to spread into his left ear. After turning one his ear doctor admitted him into the hospital for iv medicine. It helped to get rid of it. This all happened in the year of 2005.
My son saying his left ear hurting again. I took him to the doctor on Friday and no ear infection. He common getting ear infections. Well later that evening where his hole in his left ear seem to be swelling up look it closing. I look at his ear. I moved his ear back a little and see something. I put a cotton swab little bit in. Look like it was a blister that I actually popped on purpose. Now he got a sore inside of the ear near the hole. If you pull the ear back you can see it. I am wondering could it be possible that impetigo could come back. I am calling the doctor tomorrow morning to get him back in and get the sore check out before getting worse. I want it go away. The left ear was all red on friday and everything. Thanks.

I just don’t want to worry about it. I don’t want him back in hospital and I am expecting a baby that be almost four weeks to my due date.

This is very contagious bacterial infection Yes this can re occur in your son, if the under lying cause has not been treated.Your son may be a staph carrier. And the staph carriage has not been eradicated from the nose Or someone else could be a carrier.People with eczema carry lots of staph on their skin and can cause secondary cases. May wish to eradicate staph from nose need treatments from your health care provider. If comes back after treatments then someone in home or you know are carriers and should be tested.
